The Salzburg Summer Festival is approaching. This also means the start of the new Jedermann season. The "Play of the Dying of the Rich Man" by Hugo von Hofmannsthal is just as much a part of our city as the fortress and the Mozartkugel. Who doesn't know them, the impressively resounding, goosebump-inducing "Everyman" calls from various strategic points in the city. They must be truly powerful-voiced, the people who are entrusted with this important task. Accordingly, the Jedermann callers are carefully selected every year.
On the Day of the Voice, on April 16, there will be the already famous "Jedermann-Ruf für Jedermann" at Salzburg's Grünmarkt once again this year. Anyone who passes by can test his or her vocal fitness with a loud "Jeeeeeeermaaaan!" in the Jedermann call tent at the Grünmarkt in Salzburg's old town. Start: 1:00 p.m., duration: approx. two hours. Many thanks at this point to Dr. Josef Schlömicher-Thier, director of the "Austrian Voice Institute" and family doctor of the Salzburg Festival, for this wonderful initiative.
I can do this year unfortunately not be there in person due to scheduling reasons. But here is my special voice tip for all those who want to dare to tackle this task at the Grünmarkt in the call tent: Look for a firm stand and imagine where exactly your voice should carry your far-resounding call. Only via the spacious university square? Or even further, across the houses to Getreidegasse? Form a bell with your two hands and imagine that you yourself are a powerful mouthpiece. Let your voice swell. Shouting instead of screaming is the motto. This avoids pressure and narrowness of the voice and lets your "Jeeedeeermaaann!" fly voluminously and broadly all the way to the rock of the Mönchsberg.
