Convincing on stage despite pollen

Robert wakes up. Immediately he feels a familiar tickle in his nose and a scratch in his sleepy eyes. He doesn't even need to look out of the window, he knows there is bright sunshine. He knows that the pollen has already awakened. He knows that today's performance in front of a large audience will be a huge vocal challenge for him. Robert definitely loves springtime and not at all. Robert suffers from hay fever. Sighing, he stands up.

What can Robert do to make today's performance as good as possible? There are certainly some preventive measures that are effective. Our voice experts from stimme.at have collected useful tips on how to deal with pollen here: When the voice suffers from pollen.

Unfortunately, however, all this does not guarantee that you will be symptom-free on a certain day, i.e. without watery eyes, a dripping nose and an almost unrecognizable, swollen voice.

As a voice coach, I have a solution for almost all vocal challenges. However, when it comes to voice impairments due to pollen, we voice experts are often powerless. What I advise, however, especially in these cases, is the particularly intensive mental preparation for public speaking.

This starts with stage fright, which is no less than usual due to pollen attacks. As always in such cases, it is important to ground yourself and take a firm footing. Then breathe deeply and consciously and make eye contact with the audience. Only then do you speak, very attentively and with many pauses.

The hay-snorting Robert has taken this to heart in advance. And when he enters the stage that day, the miracle happens. Due to its strong concentration on the content and the audience, hay fever takes a miraculous break. As if, by the sheer power of his will, the pollen bounces off an invisible shield. He remains completely sneeze-free and sniffle-free during his speech, his voice is clear and melodious.

I think it's always nice to see how much we can control our bodies when extreme situations require it, and above all that we have vocal and body language tools at our disposal that don't let us down.

Enjoy spring and defy the pollen!
