Sometimes it is the case that you have wanted to say something for a long time, but the torrent of words from the other end of the table does not want to end. If it is important to you to clarify your point of view as well, use one of the relationship words described below to take the helm.
FOR EXAMPLE.:
- To address important things in the memory of the listeners: " Remember …“ (Example: "Do you remember your last presentation?)
- To create awareness of the problem, ask a question, for example with a " How …“ or " What …“ or a " Where …“ (Example: "What about your voice and way of speaking did you think could be improved?)
- To increase the intellectual participation of your listeners, or to open their eyes to the future, start with " If …“ (Example: "If you are now thinking about your next presentation after reading this book, ...)
- A question is always appropriate... (Example: What will you do differently in concrete terms?)
- And to encourage reflection, use the magic formula: " Perhaps …“ or " Possibly …“ (Example: You may also notice how quickly you can successfully put the many tips into practice!"
Furthermore:
- Listen carefully. Quickly pick up a thought you have just heard and tie in with it: "If you are just saying ..."
- Sometimes the torrent of words will not dry up immediately. Nevertheless, don't let that stop you from expressing your opinion as well. Simply do a "lap of honour" and follow up with the same words. If necessary, let the first word ring out without continuing directly. Pause for a moment and then continue: "If...", [Pause] "If ... You're just saying..."
Make sure that your inner attitude remains appreciative, even if you disagree on the matter. This will greatly affect the sound of your voice. Nothing leads to unproductive combat discussions in meetings more quickly than replies in a derogatory tone.
